Syllabus: | Stratigraphy principles, nomenclature and procedures in stratigraphy. Correlations, facies and stratigraphic maps. Introduction to sequence stratigraphy. Geology, stratigraphy and depositional sequences of selected Australian sedimentary basins. Sedimentology. History of sedimentology. Physical properties of sediments, weathering and sedimentary cycles. Sediment classification. Sedimentary processes and structures. Introduction to the study of sedimentary environments, facies and basin fill. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Understood how sedimentry processess are used to interpret modern and ancient depositional environments and be able to read the record of stratified rocks in sedimentary basins. |
