Syllabus: | Radiography - Applications of tomography, radiographic procedures for theatre and mobile radiography. Contrast media, contrast procedures of the genito-urinary, biliary and alimentary systems. Radiography of the cranium, face, sinuses and mandible. Special radiographic techniques - macroradiography, paediatric, gynaecologic radiography and soft tissue radiography including mammography. Nuclear Medicine - Principles of nuclear medicine imaging of various systems and organs, skeletal, pulmonary, cardiovascular, endocrine and central nervous systems, renal, GI tract (including blood loss), liver, spleen and infection/inflammatory disease imaging. Performance of bone, lung, cardiac, renal, and thyroid scans. The radiopharmaceutical laboratory - design and regulations, chemistry of technetium and iodine, radiopharmaceuticals -design and reconstitution, radio-labelling of blood components, quality control and radiation safety. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit the student will have gained an understanding of the theory behind tomography, theatre and mobile radiography, and all general contrast procedures, knowledge of radiography of the skull, face, sinuses and mandible and special radiographic techniques such as paediatric and gynaecologic radiography and soft tissue imaging and knowledge of selected procedures in the field of nuclear medicine. |
