Syllabus: | Provides an introduction to the cultural, historical and social conditions and major issues which have shaped and continue to shape the lives of Indigenous People in Australia. Features a number of core themes that underpin the topic areas of the unit. These include, the dynamic and enduring nature of Aboriginal identity and diversity of Indigenous Australian cultures, dichotomies, which characterises much of Aboriginal history and experience, dispossession of land and resources, stolen people and removal of cultures and cultural renewal and revival, enforced disadvantage and struggle for human rights. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Identified the general features of traditional and contemporary Aboriginal lifestyles. Differentiated between an Aboriginal worldview and the worldview of the dominant culture in Australia. Outlined the variety of responses adopted by Australian Aboriginal societies since European contact and colonisation, and the major changes in and adaptations by these societies. |
