Syllabus: | The discussion of the role popular music plays in the production of personal, subcultural and national identity. It examines the history of popular music and its place in global capitalism. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- A background in some of the major areas of popular music as they pertain to issues of identity - personal, group, national and local/global identities. An understanding of how musical preference and identification helps share and produce aspects of a person's identity. |
