Syllabus: | An exploration of the interaction between designed objects and popular culture: includes a study of the fundamentals principles of semiotic theory as applied to iconic artefacts and selected design work. Discussions on the politics of popular culture. Explores radical design and subcultures and their transition into mainstream design. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Knowledge of fundamental tools of design analysis. An understanding of key issues in popular culture discourse. An understanding of the two way relationship between these key issues and design work. Developed skills in comprehension of written texts, research and conventions of referencing written work. |
