Syllabus: | Nature of data in the spatial sciences. Descriptive statistics - measures of central tendency and dispersion, correlation and co-variance. Linear and multiple regression. Error analysis - types of errors and their propagation. Probability distributions. The normal distribution. Hypothesis formulation and testing - student, chi-squared and fischer distributions. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Described the functional characteristics of computer assisted cartography systems, understood data structures commonly utilised for the management of spatial data, evaluated appropriate raster orvector data structures to facilitate spatial data storage and manipulation, evaluated data characteristics and output requirements for the selection of spatial interpolation approaches and understood the characteristics of modelling and visualisation approaches and apply a range of techniques to terrain and surface data. |
