Syllabus:Medicine - effects of disease on locomotor system, manifestations and effects on the leg and foot. Genetics - nature of genetic material, familial disorders, autosomal dominant and recessive traits, sex linked traits, psychological aspects of disease. Gerontology - Importance of gerontology to the health professional - demography, accommodation, health status and implication for health providers. Physical ageing - changes occurring in systems. Psychological ageing - implications for the podiatrist.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - A knowledge of genetic influence in disease and disorders of the foot. An understanding of the aging process and the effects on the individual in general and the foot in particular.
