Syllabus:Periodontology - aggressive and acute conditions, dressings. General - local anaesthesia review, patient information, traumatic injuries, mouthguards, dental photography, suture removal. Orthodontics - examination, aetiology, classification, growth modification, planning treatment, appliances, retention, complications, instruments and materials, care of appliances, banding and debanding procedures. Clinical medicine - conditions with dental relevance.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated knowledge of acute and aggressive periodontal diseases and their management. Demonstrated knowledge of orthodontic problems and the dental hygienist's role in orthodontics. Demonstrated knowledge of the theory of clinical photography. Demonstrated knowledge of the more common medical conditions and their relevance for oral health care. Demonstrated knowledge of specific patient care procedures.
