Syllabus:Health appraisal theory, health assessment, health surveillance, monitoring, developmental assessment. Professional communication, family partnerships, developing helping relationships, advocacy, interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural security, socialjustice, legal and ethical issues. Scope of practice, clinical protocols. Professional accountability, competency standards.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Integrate family and community health nursing theory into professional and ethical practice in the community health setting. Establish and promote enabling interactions in professional relationships within the community. Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in the management of client care in the community. Synthesise and apply family and community health nursing theory to promote and maintain the health and well being of individuals, families and communities. Demonstrate competence to practice based on the Competency Standards for the Beginning Level Community Health Nurse.
