Syllabus: | A focus on becoming an independent designer. A selection of industry based briefs are provided and emphasis is placed on understanding, evaluating and resolving these briefs. All successful and innovative design is the result of a clearly defined brief, creative problem solving, idea generation, competent visuals and correct design production. Interpretation and analysis of own work and that of others is encouraged through small group activities. A response to current developments occurring within designand its associated technology will be achieved. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, the students will have - Generated more than one idea from a specific brief. Produced a resolved design from within the specific strategic requirements of a brief. Developed critical and visual literacy skills. Learned to work in a team scenario in a creative studio with a creative director to simulate the professional industry. Identified the components, purpose and application of system analysis to solve complex visual organisational problems. Distinguished the type of design appropriate for communicating ideas to a specific market. Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of international, national and local Australian designers. |

Unit Assessment Breakdown: | Assessment is continuous throughout the semester. The success of each project will be guaged by - the uniqueness of each solution. The effectiveness of the solution in answering the required brief. The professional standard of the work. The students ability to rationalise, communicate and present solutions in visual, oral or written form. The weighting for each project will be divided evenly by the number of projects set (minimum 3, maximum 5). To a total of 100%. |
