Syllabus: | Examination of issues invloved in the evaluation, selection and implementation of electronic document management and records systems. Techniques for organisation and indexing records and documents. Extensive practical use of a number of different products and opportunites to discuss them with a variety of information management professionals. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- A working knowledge of the current role of information technology in the control of business information, including intranet and knowledge management systems. Examined the issues involved in the development of information storage and retrieval systems. Determined the major issued involved in planning and implementing a major document/records management system. Critically evaluated at least two documents/records management systems. Knowledge of how to formulate and present specifications required in a tendering process. An understanding of the theory of information retrieval as it applies to organisational information resources. The ability to apply keyword file titling and create a records classification scheme. Examined present and future trends in records management technology. |
