Syllabus: | Four modules which present an introductory study of the development of television as both a medium and as an industry. Begins with the invention of television and follows its international development as a news medium before turning to focus on the localbroadcast and production industries, their current state and future development. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - An understanding of the history of news and factual television production, both internationally and in Australia. An understanding of the essential links between the technological, economical and cultural aspects of news and factual television production. A knowledge of the various fact-based genres of television programs and how they are produced and programmed. An understanding of key issues which have impacted on television production and distribution historically, particularly those affecting news and current affairs programming. The ability to make more informed decisions in relation to stylistic, technical and economic aspects of their own productions. |
