Syllabus: | Development of the foundation competencies for physiotherapy practice. The philosophy of evidence based practice is outlined with practical skills developed in acquiring, evaluating and using evidence. Also covered are other aspects of professional practice with special emphasis on the social context of disability. Basic patient care skills such as patient handling, soft tissue manipulation and passive movements are covered. Case presentations are used to integrate student learning. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed clinical and professional skills associated with the practice of physiotherapy and been introduced to the role of the physiotherapist in the areas of health and disability. Demonstratedcompetence in the areas of patient care including patient positioning, lifting and transferring. Developed manual skills related to performing passive movements and massage. Developed the foundations of clinical reasoning. Demonstrated the ability to acquire and evaluate evidence and to differentiate levels of evidence and understand the basic process of making a clinical decision. Demonstrated ongoing development of generic/professional attributes including written, verbal and interpersonal skills. |
