Syllabus:	Introduction to Human Communication Science. Psycholinguistic models of normal language and speech. Speech Science. Pragmatic and sociological factors affecting human communication. Development of communication, language and speech across the lifespan. Interacting with people of different ages and cultures to obtain representative samples of communication. Standardised clinical and research procedures for analysing and interpreting different parameters of communication.
Unit Outcomes:	On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Describe processes involved in normal communication, language and speech using linguistic models as frameworks. Describe and evaluate theories of normal language development. Obtain a representative sample of conversational discourse from a person of a different age and culture. Broadly transcribe speech using IPA notation. Obtain, analyse and interpret measures of different parameters of communication using standard clinical and research procedures.
