Syllabus:	Health care models, medical and nursing. Health care provision. Psychology of the patient and communication skills. The role of peer disciplines in the care and management of the foot. Health contract, charters, heuristic management and accountability of service. Clinical audit, quality assurance, health funds, Medicare and DVA. Professional indemnity, public liability insurance, financial planning and accounting.
Unit Outcomes:	On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Understand the concepts of caring models and relate these to podiatric management. Distinguish the cultural, sensory, physical and intellectual deficits faced by the older adult, child and athlete, and discussion of the needs of the intellectually challenged patient. Compare other disciplines approach to analysis and management of the leg and foot and promote the role of the podiatrist in a multidisciplinary approach to health. Propose therapeutic plans for the care of the foot at risk and assess the efficiency of those and alternative options of care. Understand the ethical and legal responsibilities of the podiatrist in the community. Understand the role of the Registration Board and Professional Association in the practise of podiatry. Be aware of the role of health funds and government agencies in the delivery of health care. An understanding of insurance as it relates to professional practice and a knowledge of practice management andthe economics of a small business.
