Syllabus:Introduce substantive and procedural principles of strategic and statutory land use planning and development assessment for local authorities in Western Australia. Develop an understanding of the content and implementation of Local Planning Strategies,Structure Plans and Town Planning Schemes in Western Australia (what are they, how do they work, examples of their application and implementation). Compare the Western Australian approach to interstate and international approaches to local planning.
 
Unit Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit students will have developed an understanding of the framework for local plan making, including - introductory context, local planner responsibilities, data systems for local plan making and local government structure. Gainedunderstanding of the tools for local plan making, including - introduction to the local planning tools, local planning strategy and the town planning scheme, and the model scheme text. Developed an understanding of the implementation of local planning, including - development assessment against regional and scheme, and other legislation, local laws and plans.
