Syllabus:	Anthropology of the city. Urban anthropology at home. Origins and growth of cities and urban anthropology. Kinship, family and neighbourhood in urban contexts. Work and recreation in cities. Ethnographic studies in and of urban settings. Students must produce a major research project.

Unit Outcomes:	On completion of this unit students will have- Become familiar with anthropological contributions to the study of urban development and planning. Conducted practical and fieldwork on an urban topic. Grounded their knowledge through a consideration of themajor urban development and planning issues of the Perth metropolitan area. Conducted an individual or small group research project on an urban topic.
