Syllabus:Establishment of the scope of a selected design project with individual tutors. Project work must be at a suitable scale and appropriate to the area of research. A final thesis review is presented to a jury.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Completed a design-based or written dissertation. Design-based- Clearly illustrated an understanding of the research methods undertaken as part of the research project. Developed a credible brief in response to a complex project with consideration to the range of user groups. An ability to develop a design project beyond the pragmatic, reflecting an understanding of the magic or poetry of the environment and its impact on the occupant. An ability to research and translate research findings into design project work. An ability to communicate design outcomes using a number of presentation mediums. An ability to write an exegesis that describes the theoretical background of the project, the research question, the methods used, process, conclusions and outcomes. Written- Clearly illustrated an understanding of the research methods undertaken as part of the research project. An ability to write a comprehensive paper, clearly outlining the intention, background, research question, methodology, process, conclusions and outcomes. Worked within a theoretical framework. An ability to undertake literature review and bibliography development in relation to a given topic.
