Introduction
This professional masters is designed for computing professionals who wish to take leadership roles in Internet security management. The combination of generic skills, specialist knowledge and skills, and practical applications develop a well-rounded graduate, one who has the ability to solve problems in the management of Internet security. The practical nature of the course assists in the consolidation of learning by actually doing and then reflecting upon that learning process. Students will also gain confidence in their ability to apply knowledge and skills to problem situations in an Internet environment.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Students wishing to study this program require an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in a computing or IT related discipline with a minimum course average of 70 per cent plus two years relevant industry experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Waiver from specific units may be approved but will require substitution in an approved unit by the Course Coordinator.
Duration and Availability
This course is one and a half years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Internet Security Management may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information in the Curtin Courses Handbook.
Course Organisation
The course commences with a combination of technical and management areas encompassing cybercrime and Internet security management together with problem solving as well as computer communications and networks. Knowledge and skills in both technical and management aspects of Internet security management are developed in the latter parts of the course and include Internet programming, computer forensics, cyberwarfare and other specialist computing topics in an Internet computing environment.
Professional Recognition
With a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society and the British Computing Society. Students successfully completing the Computer Forensics unit may apply for membership of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society.
Career Opportunities
Graduates generally find employment with business organisations and government agencies with an Internet presence, and organisations undertaking electronic commerce.

A full list of fees is available upon request or at enrolment. In addition, students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials and may, if required, also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables (which varies depending on area of study).
