305921 v.2 Master of Business Administration (Executive)
MBAExec(Curtin)
Introduction
This course has been designed to provide effective learning opportunities for a selected group of current or potential senior executives. The program is designed along thematic lines and will be delivered by a multi discipline team. It involves the introduction of "just-in-time" knowledge from a range of business disciplines to address complex and applied business problems and developments.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Applicants will normally hold a bachelor degree in any discipline with a credit average, or above, and have a minimum of seven years work experience including at least three to five years of budget or management responsibility for a team, department project or business unit. Participants will be sponsored by their employer who agrees to mentor a work-based project by the participant.
Specific Requirements
Students are expected to have access to a suitable personal computer and software for the duration of the course. The Graduate School of Business will assist in this regard. This is used to support the demand for a professional standard of presentation of all assessable work or presentations and the development of competencies in the use of management information systems. Students without basic competence in personal computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets will need to acquire these skills prior to the commencement of the course. The Curtin Business Centre provides a short course with outside providers of training in this area available.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants meeting the full entrance requirements will be given up to one-third recognition of prior learning based on work experience. Applicants who do not meet the required level of work experience may be required to complete selected business units as a prerequisite to course commencement.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is one year full-time in a series of three intensive modules. A period of residential attendance is required. In special cases applicants will be able to negotiate to complete over two years.
Course Organisation
Participants will attend three intensive blocks of class contact to a maximum of seven weeks and includes a residential component with regular Saturday workshops. All participants will complete a work-based project as a component of the course. The contact hours stated on the structure are an indicative total. Since these units are taught in intensive blocks, students should expect to undertake at least 150 contact hours for each unit.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Tuition fees will be levied as an inclusive figure to the participant but include a course cost component to cover cost of accommodation and related course expenses.
