186203 v.4 Master of Science (Geographic Information Science)

MSc(Curtin)

Introduction

This course provides an opportunity for students to undertake a significant research investigation in the theory or application of geographic information systems. Thesis topics will be chosen from problems of continuing or emerging significance and often will relate strongly to relevant problems of industry and government.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A strong academic record in an appropriate postgraduate diploma or an appropriate honours degree of at least second class level. Students not meeting the requirements will be required to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science, or enrol in specific units, as determined by the Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies. Students may be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.

Duration and Availability

This course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

Each student's study program will comprise a thesis in geographic information science, which will constitute the total study program and may not be completed in less than one calendar year of full-time study.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note

It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research course to receive the Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission.
