Introduction
This double degree is designed to give graduates a broad but integrated education in both Environmental Health and Environmental Biology providing dual qualifications and a versatility that opens up a wider range of employment opportunities. The course develops an understanding of health issues relating to environmental and land management with a focus in promoting health and preventing disease within the community, whilst managing the integrity and the sustainability of the environment.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
One TEE Science subject and one TEE Mathematics subject. Applicable Mathematics is desirable.

Note
Selection is based on the Tertiary Entrance Rank and satisfactory performance in TEE. Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is four years full time or equivalent part time study.
Course Organisation
The course delivery involves a wide range of methods including formal lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, seminars, projects, problem solving exercises, computer based learning. IT application and a considerable fieldwork component. Throughout the course opportunity will be provided to work with persons with recognised professional expertise and representing a wide range of environmental health and environmental biology agencies. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for Membership of the Australian Institute of Environmental Health. The degree offers accreditation by the Australian Institute of Environmental Health and the Western Australian Environmental Health Officers Professional Review Board. Graduates are also eligible for Associate Membership of the Australian Institute of Biology and the Environmental Institute of Australia. Full membership becomes possible for graduates with honours or pass degrees after three or four years of professional practice.
Career Opportunities
The course provides graduates with the skills and the qualifications to practice as an Environmental Health Officer in government agencies or as scientific Environmental Officers in government or industry.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
