STRP-CAHNU v.2 Child and Adolescent Health Nursing Stream (M ClinNurs)
Major/Stream Overview
This major/stream is part of a larger course. Information is specific to the major/stream, please refer to the course for more information.
Effective and specific education for community health nurses is imperative to prepare competent practitioners capable of fulfilling the diverse practice role required of them. Community health nursing is modeled on a primary health care framework with the aim of promoting health, preventing disease, implementing early intervention strategies, managing individual cases and working in collaborative partnership with clients. Embodied in the primary health care approach are the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention that are provided by community health nurses. Due to the autonomous nature of their work, nurses practising in the community must have professional skills and specialist preparation in community health nursing. The practice domain for community health nurses includes individuals, families, groups and whole communities. Australia's diverse multicultural society necessitates that community health nurses are able to undertake relevant research and provide relevant evidence based socio-cultural health support to the profession and members of the community throughout their lifespan.
