| Syllabus: | This unit is designed to enable learners to develop in-depth knowledge of current approaches, practices, and innovations in pedagogy and disciplinary-relevant approaches to learning and teaching. This unit first examines issues in contemporary theories of learning and pedagogy as they relate to particular disciplines, then critically examines “innovation” in curriculum and learning design. Learners will then undertake explorations into discipline-relevant contemporary and emerging learning and teaching practices in self-directed projects. Student will identify approaches and understandings that can integrate into their own contexts to improve quality of learning experiences and outcomes for their students. Utilising a design thinking framework learners will develop a rationale for an innovative design then integrate and showcase an innovation in their own teaching practice relevant to their context. Outcomes of this unit are designed to contribute to evidence of innovation for the learner’s teaching portfolio which is developed in the final unit of this course. It also is intended to be able to support application to applications for fellowship in professional higher education accreditation. |
