Course Entry/Completion Note
A current Working with Children clearance (as required in the state or country of residence) will be required prior to undertaking any work with children in schools or other settings. Students may also need to meet specific mandatory requirements of particular State or Territory authorities in order to register as teachers in those jurisdictions.
Course Organisation
Bachelor Degrees typically contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors, streams and/or minors for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study.
This course includes professional experience units and core studies which will be undertaken concurrently with optional units. Students will select a major secondary teaching area and a second specialisation stream. These will be sequenced pathways which have been designed to support and enrich students’ knowledge and skills. All students are required to successfully complete compulsory professional experience placements in schools as part of designated units throughout the course. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis for the number of days shown in a continuous block and students need to plan carefully to ensure they are able to meet this commitment. The total number of days of professional experience in the course will satisfy all states' requirements for teacher registration. No more than 25% of professional experience days may be undertaken in schools outside Australia. Therefore, students will only be able to complete one 3 week placement outside Australia and will be required to complete all other placements within Australia. None of the four professional experience placements can be broken or split into shorter periods.
