Introduction
This double degree provides students with an integrated education program in both exploration/applied geology and commerce. It provides dual qualifications in these areas and develops graduates with unique opportunities to obtain employment in resource development and related fields involving natural resource management. The Bachelor of Commerce program places an emphasis on decision making, trends in technology and associated work patterns and other aspects of management in a highly competitive business arena. The programs emphasise both theoretical concepts and the application of knowledge to commerce and industry. The finance major includes corporate finance, financial institutions and financial markets, and is relevant to many aspects of resource development projects carried out by exploration companies.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
TEE Mathematics.
Specific Requirements
STAT elements considered are E and V and Q.
Note
Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is of four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event, the relevant Head of School/Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.
Professional Recognition
Graduates of the undergraduate degree in Applied Geology are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Geological Society of Australia. Similar recognition is anticipated for this program. The degree has been accredited by the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
Career Opportunities
Graduates will find employment opportunities in the fields of mineral exploration and environmental management to which they will bring both technical and relevant business skills.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
