Introduction
Our world today is a blend of activity over places and time. Geospatial = geography + location + information. Locating, tracking, monitoring, managing, analysing and simulating such geospatial activities are the focus of the discipline of Geographic Information Science (GIScience). Geographic information systems (GIS) and digital earth technologies are vital tools for disaster management, environmental and natural resources management, planning, health, minerals and energy, agriculture, utilities and transportation infrastructure, and a host of other applications. The pre-major prepares students with essential foundational knowledge and skills for a GIScience learning and career pathway. .
