Syllabus: The sociolinguistic issues in Asia including language distribution and affiliation, writing systems, status, gender and social impacts on style. The social and political connotations that are held by speakers of Asian languages and the way in which the language is used to express social and cultural values. To heighten the awareness of definitions of language, culture and language use that are held by the speakers of some Asian languages.
