Syllabus: Structure and functions of cell-organelles and cell membrane. The chemical basis of life. Molecular diversity - water and carbon in life structure and functions of macromolecules. Energy transformations in life-metabolism, respiration and photosynthesis.Control and continuity of life - cell division, mitosis, meiosis and sexual lifecycles. Patterns of inheritance and Mendelian laws. Chromosomal basis of inheritance, genomes and genes. Molecular basis of inheritance - genes to proteins. Gene regulation. Genetic engineering. DNA technology.
