Syllabus:	This unit involves the application of medical laboratory mathematics to the measurement and monitoring of diagnostic samples in the treatment of disease. An understanding of the mathematics, associated with diagnostic procedures that involve reagent and buffer preparation, sample dilution, photometric and haemocytometer calculations will enable the medical scientist to perform, interpret and evaluate laboratory experiments. Laboratory mathematics is also applied to the evaluation of data, the establishment of reference ranges and laboratory quality control through the interpretation and understanding of output generated via statistical packages.
