Syllabus: Finite difference methods for partial differential equations (PDEs): derivative approximation, successive over relaxation (SOR) and alternating direction implicit (ADI) methods, explicit and implicit methods. Finite element methods for PDEs: variational statements, finite element formulation of elliptic and time-dependent problems, two-dimensional element calculations, solution of sparce systems of linear equations (sparse matrix methods and conjugate gradient method) and finite element applications.
