Civil project economics - principles of financial establishment and control of construction projects. Economic assessment of engineering proposals. Cost benefit techniques. Valuation and depreciation of construction plant and equipment. Construction plant replacement appraisal. Principles of tender appraisal. Case studies. Geotechnical engineering - consolidation and consolidation settlements, soil consolidation and settlement problems, soil consolidation. Preconsolidation and estimation of the preconsolidation pressure. Settlement computations. Slope stability. Stability of infinite slopes, finite slopes. Slope with water in the tensile crack. Lateral Earth Pressure, Rankine's Theory. Diagrams for lateral earth pressure distribution against retaining walls. Coulomb's Earth Pressure Theory.
