188507 v.5 Graduate Diploma in Property

Introduction
This course is designed for those who need to better serve the property industry as consultants in their current employment, to make a career switch into property, or for graduates in valuation and land economy and property wishing to update their previous education.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Applicants are required to have a degree in valuation, land economy, business, commerce, urban planning, architecture, building, quantity surveying, economics, law or any other appropriate field from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or equivalent, plus a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. Applicants who have a longer period of relevant work experience may receive preference in admission. Professionally qualified, highly experienced non graduates working in the property area may be granted entry at the discretion of the Head of School.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Students who have recently completed relevant studies in law and urban planning may be exempt from units in these areas but will have to undertake other units as approved after consultation with the Professor in Property Studies.

Duration and Availability
The course is of one year full-time duration or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation
Because of the diverse backgrounds of students, some foundation material from economics, law, town planning and real estate analysis will be included.

Career Opportunities
Students successfully completing the program usually find ready employment in middle to senior executive positions in organisations having substantial land based assets including government departments at all tiers, real estate consulting organisations, investment houses, property trusts, banks, insurance companies, and superannuation funds. Employment could also be found in professions such as urban planning, architecture and quantity surveying.
