Syllabus:

Processes of market enclosure associated with contemporary globalisation. Key elements of this period are examined including changes in citizenship, international governance, and the role of finance capital. The work of key contemporary and classical thinkers on commodification and markets are considered. Case studies of market enclosure including privatisation and the extension of intellectual property rights are analysed. Students will be encouraged to think critically, creatively and reflectively within a disciplinary framework. This unit requires in-depth research and writing on an individually chosen topic relevant to the unit in addition to assessment of the taught syllabus.
