Syllabus:Lectures by staff and guest lecturers drawn from the industry. Lectures will cover an introduction to writing for publication in the Perth Independent published by Curtin. News gathering and research techniques, key aspects of publication law, investigative journalism, reporting for community newspapers, regional news coverage issues and sports coverage. In addition there will be lectures by guests on topics of current interest to news reporters.
 
Unit Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this unit, students will have- A sharpened awareness on matters of public interest in news dissemination. An understanding of news gathering and research techniques. An ability to write news articles of publishable quality. A familiarity with publication practices and processes in the print news medium.
