Syllabus:

Analysing the meaning, sources and the production of news, the structure and language of news writing, ethical considerations in news writing, media regulation, press institutions, advertising and other pressures on journalism, news gathering and the Internet, online publishing, research in journalism, representation and bias, objectivity and balance, contact between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities, international news flow and an introduction into media law.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the methods of modern journalism. Become acquainted with the traditions and ideologies of journalism and its importance as a force for cultural change. Promoted an awareness of current events and issues in journalism and public affairs. Imparted news writing.
