Syllabus:Pathogenesis, aetiology, signs, symptoms, medical and dietary treatment of specific diseases - cardiovascular, eating disorders, renal, liver and gastrointestinal diseases, paediatric diseases, anaemias, allergy and food intolerance, bone and joint diseases and nervous system diseases and metabolic diseases. Medical Terminology.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Demonstrated knowledge of the pathogenesis, aetiology and symptoms of specific diet-related diseases. Knowledge of the physiological and biochemical basis of specific therapeutic diets. Knowledgeand ability to implement appropriate dietary modifications for each therapeutic diet, taking into consideration the patient's social, economic, physical and emotional needs.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: Test 1 30%, Test 2 (PMH) 30%, Final Examination 30%. Students must achieve 50% or more in all components of the assessment in order to pass this unit. This is a grade/mark assessment.
