Course Overview
Bachelor honours degrees prepare students to develop broad, coherent and advanced knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
The course offers student the opportunity to gain exemptions from some of the Associate programs of the Actuaries Institute examination subjects

This course is recognised by the Actuaries Institute. The course offers students the opportunity to gain exemptions from the relevant subjects of the Associateship program of the Actuaries Institute examinations (exemption criteria apply).
Course Accreditation Status
The Actuaries Institute is currently reviewing its reaccreditation policy and will advise universities in due course. All universities which are currently accredited will remain so until further notice to the contrary. This course has accreditation from the Actuaries Institute on an ongoing basis.

Specifically, applicants require successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Science). Refer to Admission into Honours Degree Programs (General Information section).
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Pathway to Further Study
Graduates with a Bachelor Degree may qualify for entry to some Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas and Master by Coursework degrees. Graduates with a Bachelor Degree with Honours may also qualify for entry to a Master or Doctorate by Research. For further details, see the University website http://curtin.edu.au.
Course Organisation
Bachelor degrees with honours typically contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study. They comprise honours-level research within the coursework of the course and are at least four years in duration.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. employ a holistic approach to understand the context of a problem;apply professional capabilities to identify a problem, research and interpret the data and apply appropriate techniques to develop an effective solution;
2. understand contemporary issues from a range of different perspectives; engage with others to develop a shared awareness of cross-cultural differences;
3. apply discipline knowledge, critical thinking and judgement to assess challenging, relevant problems and develop creative, innovative solutions
4. demonstrate a high level of awareness of relevant global developments; apply professional conduct, including self-reflection and ongoing learning, to respond and adapt to change
5. access, analyse and interpret relevant material, applying appropriate computer software and Actuarial Control Cycle approach; communicate effectively and in a professional manner using digital technology as appropriate to the audience and purpose;
6. collaborate with others in a manner consistent with professional practices in order to solve problems relevant to industry, government and the wider community in a timely and effective manner
Duration and Availability
This course is one year full-time study. Two intakes are offered each year in March and August. Prospective students should note that places may not always be available for the August intake.
