| Syllabus: | Aquaculture continues to be a globally growing industry, currently supplying approximately half of the world’s seafood. With the increasing human population and worldwide depletion of wild fish stocks, the demand for a continual supply of seafood will only put more pressure on aquaculture. The future sustainability of aquaculture requires understanding and management of the industries ecological impacts and socio economic aspects on a local and global scale. Sustainable Aquaculture 302 will introduce students, the interactions between these issues and management tools that can be applied to enable the sustainable development of aquaculture. Global sustainability issues and their management at each stage of the process will be addressed through topics and activities on farming practices, diversification in system design, risk management, regulatory processes, market research and international trade and value addition through quality improvement of aquatic products. |
