311938 v.3 Asian Studies Major

Introduction

The Asian Studies major gives students a high degree of 'Asia-literacy', developing insights into various areas: culture, society, religion, history, politics, environment, linguistics and communication, and business organisations. Using a multidisciplinary approach, it emphasises what is universal and/or comparative about Asia. The major also helps students understand the social and business dynamics of the region, and to develop their career and research skills. It thus balances theoretical investigation with a practical career orientation. The Asian studies major offers possibilities for combinations with other majors which will further enhance career paths. Graduates from the Asian Studies program are in high demand in both private and public sectors locally and internationally.

Major Combinations within the BA

Students choosing this major within the Bachelor of Arts degree will also choose another major or an elective stream. Choosing a second major allows students to study in an additional discipline area. Choosing an elective stream allows students to undertake further study in the discipline of their first major or choose from a variety of units from around the University.
