311935 v.1 3D Design Major

Introduction

Students select their pathway of study in product, jewellery, furniture or object design in the 3D Design major. This program provides students with a creatively expansive experience to express their ingenuity, culture, intellectual abilities and skills through designing in three dimensions. Project based activities develop design processes that embed professional standards with individual thoughts, concepts and ideals. Components of the third year program are self directed and lead to exhibition and publication of work. This design major is directed towards employment outcomes as a designer or practitioner in the creative industries sectors. Higher study directions include areas of specialisation in design, art, research or education.

Major Combinations within the BA

Students choosing this major within the Bachelor of Arts degree will also choose another major or an elective stream. Choosing a second major allows students to study in an additional discipline area. Choosing an elective stream allows students to undertake further study in the discipline of their first major or choose from a variety of units from around the University.

Course Entry Requirments/Prequisites

Students are required to attend an Information Session. Students should complete Animation Design Introduction 191 (310127) and Digital Image Compositing 192 (310126) in first year

Recognition of Prior Learning

Advanced Diploma from TAFE- 300 credits. Students may enter mid second year. Folio assessment.

Professional Recognition

On completion of the course, students may apply for professional membership of various design institutes including the Design Institute of Australia (DIA).

Career Opportunities

This design major is directed towards employment outcomes as a designer or practitioner in the creative industries sectors. Higher study directions include areas of specialisation in design, art, research or education.

Addtional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials including materials and exhibition costs.
