Introduction
This course provides students with broad based knowledge and practical skills in the field of health, safety and environment. In first year students are introduced to the field as well as completing foundation science and communication units Additionally, students undertake professional practice training in workplaces ranging from government agencies through to industrial settings
Course Entry Requirements/Requisites
Prerequisites: . No prior study in a particular subject is required. Applicants must meet the University’s standard entry requirements, which include English competency. Desirable: At least Mathematics 2C/2D and one science course 3A/3B from the following list: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Human Biological Science, Integrated Science or Physics. Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This course is three years full-time or equivalent part-time study. It is available in both internal and external study modes. International onshore students on student visas are not permitted to study externally. There is a requirement to be on campus for 2.5 days in the first year of study.
Professional Recognition
This course has international accreditation from the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) (UK) and graduates are eligible for membership. Graduates are also eligible for membership of the Safety Institute of Australia (SIA) and the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.Graduates who require accreditation by Environmental Health Australia for employment as Environmental Health Officers will need to undertake the PG Dip in Environmental Health.
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities exist in a wide range of private companies and government organisations as health and safety advisors, researchers and risk managers. Many graduates also find work interstate or overseas.
