Introduction
This course is designed for those wanting to develop advanced accounting skills to assist in providing high level advice to management and governing bodies. It examines advanced accounting and auditing issues and assists in developing potential in real work situations. Participants are encouraged to apply and test these ideas in the workplace, and evaluate them in light of individual experience.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisties
This degree is available to applicants who have an Australian recognized bachelor degree majoring in accounting. Selection, which is competitve, will be based on a range of information including grades achieved in previous study, referee reports and relevance of work experience. Interviews may also be required. In addition, you must meet Curtin's English competency standards.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Unit exemptions of up to 100 credits may be granted for optional units (four units) on the successful completion of professional accounting examinations approved by the School of Accounting.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
In the six core units, students will explore topics in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, governance and auditing. Optional units are available in the areas of information systems auditing and international aspects of accounting, taxation and finance.
Career Opportunities
Graduates generally find employment with organisations, both in the private and public sectors, and accounting firms.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
