Introduction
This course provides a first professional qualification in records management and archives for those who have completed a Bachelor’s degree and wish to work in this field. Students develop an understanding of the processes of information handling and use within organisations, acquire the basic principles of records management and archives as applied in professional practice.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A three-year bachelor degree in another discipline or a four-year honours degree in another discipline. As the course is heavily dependent on computer skills, applicants should develop competency in word-processing and use of Internet browser software before commencement of the course.
Specific Requirements
Regular and reliable Internet access is required as well as access to a Microsoft Windows operating system.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
A three week fieldwork component is taken during the inter-semester break and allows students to put into practice, in a supervised work environment, the theory gained during the first semester.
Professional Recognition
This course is recognised by the Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia and the Australian Society of Archivists.
Additional Courses Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Students may incur a cost for personal Internet access.
