Introduction

This course is suitable for personnel working in a range of health, educational, management and human service areas. Designed for those seeking the skills to conduct coaching and/or mentoring in a variety of settings including corporate and business settings or with individuals at a personal level. Coaching assists people to set goals and to achieve them.This course provides the theory, techniques and experiential skills to assist with this process.The program encourages professional and personal development and the acquisition of skills and develops professional competence relevant to the practice of coaching and mentoring. The experienced counsellors, coaches and psychologists in the Graduate Diploma in Coaching utilise teaching and learning practicesdesigned to broaden analytical thinking and critical evaluation, synthesise and integrate information, and formulate hypotheses and propose appropriate models for working with non-clinical clients.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent and at least one year fulltime or equivalent work experience in interpersonal service provision. Applicants without a tertiary degree or equivalent but who meet the requirements for tertiary entrance and whose professional experience indicates they would benefit from the course are encouraged to apply and will be considered on a case by case basis. All applicants are required to complete the following: 1. Curtin application for admission and enrolment form; 2. Provide a recent curriculum vitae including relevant work experience; 3.Two referee reports; 4. A certified copy of previous tertiary or other relevant qualifications; 5. A written statement expressing your reasons for applying (no more than 500 words); 6. Shortlisted candidates attend an interview. Non standard applications will be considered on merit.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are encouraged from applicants and are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availabilty

This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. Entry into this course is available at the commencement of each year.

Course Organisation

A combination of coursework and a practicum units. Students will be required to complete units delivered in either weekly lectures/seminars, or in intensive workshop format, for example two or three day workshop/seminars held during semester.

Career Opportunities

It is expected that graduates will already be employed and will use the skills acquired in their current profession. The program will assist those wishing to become a professional life and/or executive coach.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
