| Syllabus: | This transitional capstone unit will consolidate midwifery capabilities though clinical placement to the level of initial entry professional midwife. Students synthesise clinical skills and theoretical understanding and manage the care of women over the continuum of midwifery care, under the supervision of an experienced midwife. Students explore issues of women from multicultural backgrounds and those with complex problems, including family and domestic violence and female genital mutilation. The unit will also explore Clinical Governance, audit, quality improvement and the safety of women and babies. The Midwife Standards for Practice (2018) inform the core framework used to demonstrate that the midwifery student is able to practice as a beginning midwife, with an emphasis on collegiality, collaboration and interprofessional practice. |
