| Syllabus: | This unit provides a foundation to learning and teaching in higher education contexts. It begins with a review of the diverse nature of contemporary higher education students and their varied learning needs and expectations. It introduces key learning and teaching concepts and strategies for early career tertiary teachers including curriculum and assessment planning and design, contemporary educational approaches, practices and understandings in tertiary teaching. Teaching diverse learners, learner engagement, indigenous learners and knowledge, online learning, collaborative learning, and quality assurance in higher education teaching are addressed. The underpinning perspective is that effective teachers are critically reflective and engage in cycles of teaching and learning evaluation and professional development with a quality mindset for enhancing teaching and learning in their practice. Learning activities and assessments are designed to develop the knowledge and skills acquired in this unit to your own particular learning and teaching context. Learners should be able to utilise their learning in application to professional accreditation bodies (HEA, HERDSA) at an Associate Fellow level, and to their professional teaching portfolio. |
