| Syllabus: | The focus of this unit is on applying evidence based education and self-management techniques to improve outcomes for people with prediabetes and diabetes in interdisciplinary settings. Students will undertake clinical practicum in diverse settings related to diabetes care under the supervision of a credentialled diabetes educator to consolidate knowledge and skills. Students will explore diabetes organisations and services, scope of practice of the diabetes educator including ethical and legal aspects. Lifelong learning principles also underpin this unit. They will apply teaching and learning principles, person-centred communication and counselling skills, leadership and management principles including patient safety and quality related to diabetes health service delivery. |
