| Syllabus: | The unit introduces the principles and practise of mineral exploration and mining geology. The students examine the current practises of mineral exploration including geological, geochemical and geophysical techniques, and analyse and interpret exploration drilling data. The unit also covers the mining geology fundamentals and operations including sampling methods, QAQC procedures, resource estimation methods (classical and geostatistical), grade control procedures and public reporting of resources (JORC Code) and role of indigenous communities within the mining chain. The unit includes an intensive five day session of classroom and field activities in Kalgoorlie. |
