Syllabus: | Stress and its relationship to brittle failure of rocks. Visualising stress using Mohr circles. Fault initiation and development. Application of stereographic projections in structural geology. Concepts, models and quantitative techniques for analysing for strain in rocks. Kinematic analysis of shear zones and fold mechanisms. Analysis of superposed deformation and refolded folds. Rheology and the mechanical properties of rocks. Deformation processes, mechanisms and microstructure. Construction of deformation histories. |
